Update: Burrow is questionable to return with a toe injury, per Adam Schefter. We’ll see if he has any chance to return to this game, but Jake Browning is still in the game as they come out for the second half.
Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow has gone to the locker room after injuring his ankle/shin area. He was limping badly as he walked along the sideline with help. At this point we don’t have a good idea as to the extent of the injury, but backup QB Jake Browning is now in the game. We’ll take a look at the fantasy impact of this injury below.
Fantasy fallout
There’s little doubt losing Joe Burrow for any amount of time is a knock on the Bengals’ offense, but we have seen Browning play above average football with Burrow out in 2023. In seven starts that year, Browning went 4-3 with a great 70.4 completion percentage. He threw 12 touchdowns to seven interceptions and had a 98.4 QB rating. He threw at least one touchdown per game. He ended up helping Tee Higgins to better numbers than Ja’Marr Chase, as it was tougher for him to hit the big numbers overall, but he did not kill their fantasy value.
If Burrow is to miss any time, Browning should become a 2QB league pickup with some streaming appeal in great matchups, while Chase, Higgins and Chase Brown all remain must starts in fantasy, but their ceilings will be lowered.
