Top 35 fantasy football QBs for Week 7

Welcome to Week 7 of the fantasy football season! Let’s take a quick look back at the first six weeks and see how the quarterbacks stack up so far this year. Your No. 1 quarterback in fantasy is, drumroll please . . . Patrick Mahomes! This is a surprise, as Mahomes and the Chiefs offense hasn’t really clicked in a while despite still winning. His rushing numbers have boosted him quite a bit this season, as he has 222 yards and four touchdowns on the ground. That extrapolates to 629 yards rushing and 11 TDs through 17 games. With Rashee Rice returning this week, I’d expect his rushing numbers to not keep up with that pace, but it’s been nice for those who drafted him.

Those of you who projected second-year Patriots QB Drake Maye to a strong fantasy year are looking good so far. He sits at fifth overall in fantasy points. His rushing numbers are decent, with 138 yards and two touchdowns, but he’s doing well enough as a passer to keep him from relying on his legs for good fantasy results.

Overall there aren’t any big surprises, especially in the Top 5. Rushing numbers will always give a quarterback an edge in fantasy, and that continues to bear out.

QB injuries/news

Kyler Murray, Cardinals

Murray has a mid-foot sprain and missed last week against the Colts. We’ll see if he can get healthy enough to face the Packers at home this week, but there isn’t much of a reason to push a foot injury for a running quarterback when Jacoby Brissett appeared just as capable last week in a close loss to the now 5-1 Colts.

JJ McCarthy, Vikings

McCarthy has been out since Week 3 with an ankle injury and should be able to return sooner than later. There is some question as to how quickly head coach Kevin O’Connell wants him out there, as he has looked bad in his limited time, while Carson Wentz has looked average at times. But, Wentz is also dealing with an injury, so they might not have a choice.

Lamar Jackson, Ravens

Jackson was forced from Week 4’s game against the Chiefs with a hamstring injury and did not return. He was unable to play in Week 5 or 6 and now the Ravens are at 1-5, but mercifully have a bye this week to hopefully get Jackson back out there.

Brock Purdy, 49ers

Purdy’s toe injury flared up during their Week 4 loss to the Jaguars. He was then unable to play the next two games. There is a chance he can return to Sunday Night Football against the Falcons this week, but there are still plenty of questions about his availability.
