U.S. Open 2026: Wyndham Clark won in a way we hadn’t seen in a long time

Wyndham Clark is a U.S. Open Champion. Again.

Clark went wire-to-wire at Shinnecock Hills for his second major championship victory. It is difficult enough to win a U.S. Open a single time, but that Wyndham has now done so twice (2023 in Los Angeles) is insanely impressive.

Wyndham’s breakthrough on this level feels similar to Bryson DeChambeau’s at Pinehurst two years ago. Bryson won his pair of U.S. Open titles in a span of five years (2020 through 2024) where it took Wyndham only four, but that second win really validated Bryson in a way in the golf world and it figures that this could be that for Clark, too.

As noted Wyndham went wire-to-wire at Shinnecock, and that is hardly something that happens often when it comes to the national championship.

In fact, the last time a U.S. Open winner won in wire-to-wire fashion was over a decade ago. Martin Kaymer’s 2014 win has been knocked off of the perch where Wyndham’s now sits with pride.

All told there have now been just nine wire-to-wire (no ties) wins in U.S. Open history.
